On Tuesday, November 22, 2016 the students and staff gathered for an epic Thanksgiving celebration at the main office of Living Resources. As you can see from the enormous feast, we enjoyed every nostalgic Thanksgiving dish that dates back to childhood, and there was enough food left over to give away to the Capital City Rescue Mission, an organization dedicated to feeding the hungry.  The aspect of our feast that we are most proud of is how all of the food that lined the tables was created entirely by our students!

We also had a booth stocked with props such as a turkey beak and mustaches that allowed our students to “ham it up” while we took photographs.

On another note, we believe that the skills built in the College Experience are like any other muscle.  If you do not continuously use it then you gradually begin to lose it.  The students hopefully found lots of time to relax while watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and slept late during their well-deserved vacation.  But we are hoping they continued the momentum and chose to hone the abilities they 065have been learning throughout the program.  Before they left for the vacation, the staff encouraged all students to help out their families with washing dishes, cooking, or whatever else is necessary to shave off some of the chaos that is sometimes inevitable during the holiday season for all of us! thanksgiving2016-eating

We enjoyed hearing about what the students are thankful for in their lives right now. We are so glad that many of them are thankful for their families and all of the new friends they have met within the College Experience.  In just a few weeks our students will be back home with their families once again, and we will continue working with them to ensure a strong completion of the fall semester.  In the meantime, we will do our best to infuse the holiday spirit within our program!
