The College Experience Program is a two-year certificate program for young adults
with developmental disabilities serving as a stepping stone to living independently.
Students live away from home with a group of peers and attend specifically-designed
class on the Saint Rose campus that focuses on independence, self-advocacy, integration
into college life, time management and life-long learning. Students experience campus
life by attending Saint Rose events.
All costs associated with the program are covered: tuition, supervisory housing staff, meal plans, weekly food checks, and laundry money. Students’ benefits (SSI or Social Security) go towards paying room and board.
Students with a developmental disability that are receiving Medicaid, SSI and are OMRDD waiver enrolled are eligible to apply. Students between the ages of 21-26 are the best fit for the program due to their level of maturity and desire for independence. Students must be motivated and have the desire to participate in events and class discussions. A reading and writing level equivalent to the 4th grade is preferred.
