Most importantly, students must have a strong drive to succeed and the motivation
to achieve their goals.
Students with
a developmental disability that are receiving Medicaid, SSI and are OMRDD waiver
enrolled are eligible to apply. Students between the ages of 21-26 are the best
fit for the program due to their level of maturity and desire for independence.
Students must be motivated to learn and have the desire to participate in events
and class discussions. A reading and writing level equivalent to the 4th grade is
preferred.
Potential students must complete an application independently and submit a statement explaining why he/she would like to be part of the College Experience Program. As part of the application process, a parent/guardian and a teacher must complete a recommendation form. Supporting documents must be requested from a school or Medicaid Service Coordinator and sent in with the application.
This OMRDD paid program is tuition free for families. All costs associated with the program are covered: tuition, supervisory housing staff, meal plans, weekly food checks, and laundry money. Students’ benefits cover the cost of room and board.
